Gov’t Mule goes into curveball mode for Black Friday and delves into their vaults for a limited run, vinyl-only release of highlights from its fabled Halloween 2009 performance at the Tower Theater outside of Philadelphia. The show featured a long and varied set of impassioned, expertly executed Rolling Stones covers as only the Mule can deliver, with special guests Jackie Greene (Phil Lesh & Friends, Black Crowes, Trigger Hippy) ans saxophonist Steve Elson (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Radiohead, David Bowie). The songs on Vol. 1 are newly edited and mastered, with the vinyl lacquers cut from the old Stax Records lathe in Memphis.
The Vagaband are an 8-piece based in Norfolk, UK. Among the instruments they play are fiddle, mandolin, pedal-steel guitar, clarinet, flügelhorn, banjo, squeezebox and piano. They play original song-based roots music; a soulful mix between americana, blues, jazz and rock.
In celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary, Yo La Tengo have announced a reissue of their 1993 Matador LP Painful. It’s called Extra Painful and is out December 2 on the same label, in 2xLP and 2xCD formats. These deluxe editions of the record will include demos, unreleased studio takes, live acoustic recordings, and other related tracks.
