On his new record Blues At The Grand, his a-list friends have already joined the party. Producer Jimmy Hogarth is mixing cocktails, drummer Joey Waronker is in the ballroom and comedian Jessica Hynes is flirting with the bellboy. For the first time with Son of Dave, it’s a full-band record and, as the bluesman is happy to admit, it is his most joyous to date. Blues At The Grand is released on 4th November.
Son of Dave says that people often ask him, “What kind of bluesman comes from Winnipeg in Canada, but has lived in London for more than 15 years? What kind of bluesman doesn’t abandon his illegitimate children to go adventuring?” You might also ask, “What kind of bluesman has a YouTube channel, on which he posts covers of improbable songs like ‘Bonkers’ by Dizzee Rascal and anarchically reviews the latest singles by Beyoncé, Stooshe and Kendrick Lamar?”
The record blends a variety of Texas styles, including country, rock, blues, and singer-songwriter folk, all tied together by Dan’s soulful vocals and pop sensibilities. The record features guest appearances from notable San Antonio musicians, including Nathan Rigby of Emory Quinn and singers Nicolette Good, Melissa Ludwig, and Sylvia Kirk. Additionally, Long Way Down was mastered by the Grammy-Award winning producer Chris Lieck.
The two dominating factors on this tremendous album that perfectly blends equal doses of classic indie rock and alt. country, is the meaty dramatic guitar sound and Dave Slomin’s classic alt. country vocals. The recording contains a varied mix of tempos and subject matter from mid tempo rootsy rockers to classic alt. country ballads all performed with drive, skill and total commitment, much to the benefit of this highly enjoyable album.

The son of a cattle rancher and Sioux Indian, Halverson spent his youth moving around the Texas panhandle; now based in Austin, his music is as wide open and honest as an Amarillo sky.“I try to spread truth through my songs to help others transition through life and spread happiness to the people around them,” he explains. “May truth and love be revealed through my music always.”
Then Play On was Fleetwood Mac s 1969 debut on Reprise. This expanded and remastered edition features the original U.K running order and track segues, with “One Sunny Day” and “Without You” making their first appearance on a CD issue of the album, as well as new liner notes by veteran rock journalist David Fricke and four bonus tracks, including the revered single “Oh Well Pt. 1,” which boasts one of the great guitar riffs in rock history and has been covered by likes of Billy F Gibbons, Jimmy Page, and Tom Petty.
As guitarist for The Lovely Lion, he made just a slight impact on a global scale – but assuming a solo guise, Ásgeir (or to be full-named, Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson) is set to ensnare anyone whose tickers are still beating red goo. He’s poised to usurp both Björk and Sigur Rós as Iceland’s foremost musical exports, after snatching a swath of awards and breaking a smorgasbord of records at the ripe old age of 21.
