Given that Geoff Farina’s career thus far has consisted of being the frontman in 90s experimental alt-rockers Karate and one half of indie duo The Secret Stars, it comes as a slight surprise to note that his first solo album in a decade is about as cutting edge as Spongebob Squarepants’ bollocks. ‘The Wishes Of The Dead’ comprises of ten songs chronicling a year spent living in a small town in Maine, and the influence of rural Americana is plastered all over these tracks.Fans of piedmont style finger-picked guitar will find a great deal of joy within ‘The Wishes Of The Dead’. Geoff Farina’s debut album is a master class in plucked intricate guitar riffs, all of which are centred around his dark baritone voice that broods over a variety of pretty melodies.

RO“There may be flashier songwriters than Robbie Fulks, but there are none better than him. His album, Gone Away Backward, is a sneaky triumph. Hobos and miscreants rub shoulders with nostalgic old-timers and lonely lovers. The musicianship on the album kicks ass, but the real star is the brilliant pile of songs Robbie has amassed for his return to the great Bloodshot Records.” –Rhett Miller, Old 97’s

layThis is spiritual blues that is reflected in the opening gospel track of ‘Glory, Glory Hallelujah’. This is an album produced with thought, love and care delivered by two superb musicians who what to convey the blues to you and they certainly achieve this. Every track is a little bit special but the flower at the centre of the bouquet is the stellar track of the album.
