His artwork has undergone many transformations/styles over a 20 year period. Shields has created many bodies of work that differ in style and content. His music is rooted in pre and post war 20th century America with a 21st century perspective. He has a deep appreciation for Delta Blues, Country Blues, early Country and beyond. Shields continues that tradition with respect in the 21st century and transcends any specific genre. However, critics have paired his music with the more recent Deep Blues music movement. blBloodline was an American blues rock band composed of the sons of several well-known rock musicians. It was also guitarist Joe Bonamassa’s first band (he was billed as “Smokin’ Joe Bonamassa”).
Bloodline signed to Varèse Sarabande/Capitol in 1994 and released one self-titled album. The group’s members were drummer Erin Davis (son of Miles Davis), rhythm guitarist Waylon Krieger (son of Robby Krieger), and bassist and lead vocalist Berry Oakley, Jr. (son of Berry Oakley), along with Bonamassa, whose parents were musicians, though not famous. For the keyboard parts, the band called veteran keyboard player Lou Segreti. Warren Haynes made a guest appearance on the album. The record produced one hit single, “Stone Cold Hearted”, which reached No. 32 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The group split shortly after the release of the record, immediately following a tour opening for Tesla and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

JIsbell is a former member of the Drive-By Truckers and this is his second solo release. The album was co-produced by Isbell and his new band The 400 Unit with Matt Pence. The album was recorded at the renowned Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. Isbell, who is following in the tradition of American songwriters who have recorded in North Alabama. Much like Arthur Alexander, Eddie Hinton and Spooner Oldham, Isbell mixes a soulful vocal style with songs that are passionate and unrepentant in their sense of place and direct in their stubborn Southerness.

tThe folk music world hasn’t exactly been holding its breath waiting for this reissue, but it should have been. Recorded two decades ago by singer/songwriter Tom Russell and his performing partner of the time, Patricia Hardin, the CD combines remastered versions of 1976’s wonderful “Ring of Bone” with 1978’s nearly as good “Wax Museum.” (One track from each LP has been deleted to allow both albums to fit on one CD.) Expect melodically inventive music, heartfelt vocals, and memorable lyrics about everything from life and death in the Southwest to the Hindenburg. (“Wax Museum” ends with the actual radio broadcast of the Hindenburg going down.) “Ring of Bone,” in particular, boasts a charming, homespun feel — not surprising, since it was recorded more or less live on a shoestring budget — and both albums make good use of a wide range of instruments, including sousaphone, trumpet, violin, and what’s billed as a “’50s Guy Lombardo saxophone.”
