bag is hot frontJoseph Arthur is an American singer-songwriter and artist from Akron, Ohio. Combining poetic lyrics with a layered sonic palette, Arthur has built his reputation over the years through critically acclaimed releases and constant touring; his unique solo live performances incorporate the use of a number of distortion and loop pedals, and his shows are recorded live at the soundboard and made available to concertgoers immediately following the show on recordable media. Arthur was discovered by Peter Gabriel in the mid-’90s, and signed to Gabriel’s Real World label as the first North American artist on the label’s roster.

chChip Taylor follows his string of critically acclaimed and Top 10 Americana albums with an astonishing album of moody, sometimes foreboding songs that find dark clouds everywhere but a few silver linings as well. The songs were born out of a somewhat dark period for Taylor following the 2011 Norway massacre. Taylor was in the country at the time and in the wake of the killings he wrote and performed a new song, ‘This Darkest Day’, at a benefit in honor of the victims. The experience led to some of the most somber and serious songs of his long illustrious career. And for the first time since he was a teenager, Taylor allowed someone else – Goran Grini – to guide the project. Grini produced the album for Norway’s top folk singer, Paal Flaata, which was a collection of Taylor compositions (both old and new). Wait By The Fire was released to critical and popular acclaim last year, hitting the top ten in Norway and receiving album of the year nomination.

whLike the soundtrack to a spaghetti western set in the Dust Bowl, Whiskey Folk Rambler’s “folk noir” blends ominous, reverb-dripping guitars with boot-stomping train beats and funereal horns to create sonic backdrops for down-on-your-luck ballads and beer-soaked anthems.
Their music is the sound of a union meeting at its drunkest, of a last-resort robbery gone awry, of mice and men and the lengths they’ll go to forget about their troubles. From catchy singalongs to moody shuffles, Whiskey Folk Rambler’s sound takes American roots music down a road less traveled, where even the Devil might be waiting to raise a toast.
