Even More Songs Of Route 66: From Here To There is the 3rd volume of Route 66 songs by producer David Sanger. His first two collections (The Songs Of Route 66: Music From The All-American Highway (1995) and More Songs Of Route 66: Roadside Attractions (2001)) have established the six-time Grammy winner as the foremost musical spokesman for America’s main street. His Route 66 CDs and their music have appeared in T.V. and movie soundtracks, DVDs, textbooks, bank and beer promotions, NPR features, national periodicals and newspapers and along the way have sold over 40,000 copies in gift shops and record stores along the historic highway.

Featuring a who’s who of Austin Americana – The Band Of Heathens, Dale Watson, Slaid Cleaves, Elizabeth McQueen, Carolyn Wonderland, Seth Walker, Matt the Electrician and others – all have their turn on this new outing.

This collection provides a retrospective of a husband-and-wife who succeed both as a duet act, and as solo artists. The fourteen tracks collect works from four of Buddy’s solo albums, two of Julie’s, and a half-dozen of their duet works. It’s an impressive picture, with Julie’s songwriting matched to Buddy’s instrumental and producing talents, and the pair’s voices intertwining Buddy’s gruffer lower-register with Julie’s girl-tinged alto. The mix of solo and duet works – all of which featuring both of their voices – show how effortlessly they can modulate their presence from foreground to background when allowing their partner to take the spotlight. Though their solo albums (particularly Buddy’s “Poison Love”) make more cohesive statements than this anthology, this is a superb place to get an appreciation of the duo’s artistic arc. Fans who have the original albums will want to hear the scorching, unreleased take of “You Make My Heart Beat Too Fast.”

It’s Not Too Late, is a fantastic CD . Once again mixing Celtic, Ukranian, rock, and other influences in a wonderful goulash of sound, Scythian can at times make you think you’re listening to an inventive and well put together mixtape. Each band member has uncanny musical talent and plays multiple instruments, allowing them to easily navigate a wide musical reach.
