Shape Shifter is Carlos Santana’s 36th album. The first release on Santana’s new label, Starfish Records, Shape Shifter is dedicated to Native American Indians and comprised of mostly original compositions.
The 13-track set is an instrumental work of art featuring tracks from the late 1990′s through to the present. Compositions Carlos Santana has been carefully stashing away for this long-anticipated instrumental project. The songs, whose sequence has been as carefully thought out as the selection of tracks for Shape Shifter, flow together in a way that is almost magical. And behind it all it the artistry and spirit that is Carlos’ guitar. Some of the tracks will seem familiar to audiences. Spark of the Divine for instance is often played on tour to introduce such fan favorites as Black Magic Woman. Carlos also covers Dom by Toure Kunda.Only one, Eres La Luz, features vocals. This track also highlights that irresistible and mysterious Latin groove that is, to so many fans, the essence of Santana.
